Melbourne singer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Majella, born Tri Nguyen, fell in love with music as a kid and travelled through Europe as a DJ and backup dancer in his early 20s. Never one to sit still, he returned and locked himself in his parent’s tin shed and turned his focus on producing music for himself under the moniker of ‘Majella’ - named for an Irish songstress he met on his travels, who touched him so deeply he tattooed her name across his chest in Vietnamese calligraphy.

Now in his 60s, he shares his self-produced music that showcases his taste for intricately layered rhythms playfully put alongside dreamily cinematic instrumentals, and set the stage for clever and catchy vocal performances.

His new single ‘Oh Why’, is a smooth, simmering slice of trip-hop production, lyrically inspired by the onstage rants of Kanye West of yesteryear. It builds on a loose piano loop that bursts into a solemnly soulful tumble of layered synths and filtered breakbeats while Majella waxes lyrical on Destiny’s Child’s Survivor video, his ambitions of owning a white Porsche 911 and his ability to immediately tell the truth from a lie.

Majella is a unique mind making music from the heart, bursting out of his tin shed with ideas to burn.
